The Iowa Department of Education has posted guidelines for K-8 Music Education aligned to the Iowa Core Curriculum!

Arts and the Iowa Core

Notice that K-8 music was the first fine arts area to complete their work and have it approved by the DOE! A direct link to the document is here.

Congratulations to our First Iowa Orff members who helped on this writing process: Aaron Hansen, Michelle Droe, and Tim Purdum. Special congrats to our past president, Linda Murphy, who actually ran the entire process and communicated with the DOE on behalf of music educators across the state!

October date

There was some confusion about the date of our October workshop.

Jill Trinka will be coming on October 22. This session is co-sponsored by Kodaly Educators of Iowa. The date was incorrect in the newsletter.

Kristi Keast's husband

I just received word that Kristi Keast's husband Craig passed away.  Visitation will be this Friday from 5-7pm at Morgan Funeral Choices and the funeral will be Saturday at 10:00am at the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.  A card and memorial will be sent from the entire Chapter, but if anyone wants to do something as an individual I'm sure Kristi would appreciate it!  Aaron
